MY FRIEND WROTE A BOOK ABOUT PORN. YOU SHOULD READ IT.

October 17, 2017

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to leave your normal life behind, move to Los Angeles, and pursue a career in the porn industry? I'm sure many of you have, as I get countless e-mails and DMs asking just how does one get into the business.

That's exactly what my friend J.R., who you may know by his alter ego Logan Pierce, did when he dropped out of college and drove head first into the world of pornography. And now you get to read about it since his book Between the Sheets: Rise of a Working Stiff came out today and is available on my store HERE.

-----------------------------------------------------------

You meet all kinds of people on porn sets. There's the jaded industry professional who makes filming sex feel like the most average job in the world. There's the stereotypical 18 year old with daddy issues and a Xanax problem. There's the new age feminist who has her masters in sexual health and considers her job a "field study." And then there's a handful of us who you would walk by on the street and, unless you've seen us in a film, you would never guess how we make a living, because we look like the girl you sit next to in chemistry class or the guy you see buried in a book at the coffee shop. On the surface, we are ordinary. The only thing that ties us to this lascivious world is something dark inside us, something you don't see when you meet us in passing or chat us up at the bar, but something so driving that we gave up our comfortable lives, relationships, and futures to experience. It's something everybody thinks about, but no one talks about, society's dirty little secret.

I met Logan, your not-so-typical for porn boy-next-door type, one day on set and found him interesting because instead of flirting with the girls or distracting the crew, he was sitting in the corner scribbling in a notebook. As it turned out, we had quite a lot in common, growing up with supportive and relatively conventional families in the uneventful suburbs of the east coast, dropping out of college to pursue a crazy career which we luckily ended up being pretty damn good at, and a shared love for words and storytelling.

Here we are three years later and those scribbles in the notebook have become a self-published novel. I'm so proud of him and excited to see these stories I first got to read years ago come to life in a REAL book you can hold, and smell, and bend the pages of (if you're into that kind of thing).

If you've ever wondered what being in the porn industry is like, especially as a guy, this is a must read. It's not nearly as glamorous as you probably think, and you'll find Logan a more relatable character than you expect as he strives to enjoy his new found freedom from society's perceived virtues without completely losing himself to his vices.

As he says in the book, the job "requires a brush of masochism, a dash of self-depreciation, and most importantly, a sense of humor." His honest and disillusioned perspective is refreshing, amusing, and at times quite touching and self reflective. He balances absurdity with the routine, mundane even, giving readers a truthful glimpse into the industry of selling sex.

Between the Sheets is the story of a male performer, but also a look at the cost of vice and the sacrifices we make in pursuit of it.
